We recently went to a restaurant in London called Lima. We went to the Fitzrovia restaurant, with no experience of Peruvian cuisine and were very pleasantly surprised.
The Atmosphere
For me this was everything you want from a restaurant. You are welcomed in and shown to your seat. You feel you are in a special place and they want to make sure you have a great time, yet at the same time you are relaxed and feel no pressure to be some city suit that you aren't. Casual, comfortable and Class.
Drinks
Excellent wine menu with a wide selection of South American wines, nothing to fault.
The meal and food
We ordered 3 starters to share a main and dessert each.
Before we received our food, we were given a watermelon and tomato gazpacho along with cornbread and a yogurt based dip. It was an excellent refreshing start to the meal.
Our starters were sea bream tiradito, which was thinly sliced raw sea bream in coconut tigers milk, this was an excellent dish that was light and summery and allowed the excellent sea bream flavour to come through.
The second was beef Tamale, the beef had excellent flavour and matched really well with the cornbread.
Finally we had the cornfed chicken causa, which was light and rich at the same time. As you can see, all was presented beautifully.
For main courses we had the Duck breast and the 48hr braised beef cheek. Less adventurous, but the black Cod was fairly expensive (£36). The duck was beautifully pink and yummy. It was tender and flavourful and was an excellently crafted dish. 100% worth it!
The Beef Cheek was rich, with an excellent depth of flavour and perfectly tender, the cornbread with it was crisp on the outside with a wonderfully soft texture inside. Again an excellent dish.
I don't normally mention the side salad but the soy sauce dressing was incredible, like full on amazing. Also it comes with avocado so an excellent green salad for the millennial.
'Dessert was ice cream with some crumble which wasn't an incredible choice but was a good end to a meal.
and secondly a quinoa pudding (a bit like a rice pudding) which had that slightly odd quinoa texture but was incredibly moorish.
Great meal, depending on how much you earn a casual night out or something for an occasion. it was £150 for 2 people all in.
Go there, especially if you have never had Peruvian food!
